Aadhaar API Opens to Private Sector
India’s digital ID platform, Aadhaar, will allow private companies to access its APIs creating opportunities for the development of biometric-enabled third-party services for India’s 1.4 billion citizens.
Simplifying Access to Services
Aadhaar has also updated its own app with improved UI features such as QR-based data sharing to enhance security while ensuring users can access a wider range of services and reduce friction in the authentication process.
Anticipating Transaction Growth
Aadhaar is anticipating an increase in daily transactions from 100M to over 250M and is working to support this through initiatives like competitions and the exploration of new services such as digital rail ticket booking with biometric authentication. This presents a significant opportunity for NEXT and its partner ACPL to provide new, L1 certified biometric authentication devices.
Evolving Biometric Standards
Facial recognition has been announced as an additional modality to strengthen authentication for non-financial Aadhaar use cases, offering greater flexibility for Indian citizens. Facial recognition can either be used for Multifactor Authentication (MFA), when combined with fingerprint recognition, or as standalone for non-financial use cases.
